WSU lands $2.7M grant for ADHD brain study/h1

A Wayne State University researcher has received a $2.7 million federal grant to study the development of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children’s brains. The grant from the National Institutes of Health seeks to develop better treatment for ADHD. Associate professor Jeffrey Stanley says the main goal of the five-year study is to find when the brains of healthy children and those with the disorder start to diverge.

The university says the research involves brain imaging and other forms of testing. Stanley and his associates will study two groups of 40 children each. They’ll do neuroimaging of the 6- to 14-year-olds and conduct a range of behavioral and cognitive tests on them.
